A Fort Wayne man may have escaped an arson charge against him Thursday, but he didnt escape prison time.
Accused of pouring gasoline inside his mobile home and threatening to kill both himself and the woman who lived with him, Heath Wood, 29, was sentenced to seven years in prison, according to Allen Superior Court records.
Wood, of the 2700 block of West Washington Center Road, was arrested in April after police said he tried to set fire to his home and pushed the woman who lived there, causing her to injure her head and chest.
Last month, he pleaded guilty to a felony intimidation and misdemeanor domestic battery. In exchange, Allen County prosecutors agreed to drop an arson charge against him.
With an extensive criminal record, he also pleaded guilty to being a habitual offender, a charge that enhanced his sentence by four years, according to court records.
Wood was sentenced to seven years and 183 days, but those 183 days were suspended, court records said.
