Spartans take soccer sectional

For the second time in the sectional, Homestead’s girls soccer team won 6-0.

This time, though, against Columbia City on Monday at the Spartans’ pitch, it was for the sectional championship.

The No. 6-ranked Spartans advance to the Class 2A regional at East Noble, where they will face Leo in a rematch of last year’s regional, which the Lions won 2-0.

“I think (the team is) focused on playing Leo – not so much to make amends for last year – but to accomplish their goals for this year,” Homestead coach Katie Metz said.

Aided by three successive goals from Kelsey Wendland, Homestead (16-1-1) rolled to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Earlier in the tournament, Homestead defeated Huntington North, 6-0.
