Schowe

An Auburn man hung himself in the Allen County Jail on Saturday, the Allen County Coroner's Office ruled today.

The death of Craig Mitchell Schowe, 46, of Auburn, was caused by asphyxia because of hanging, the coroner's office said in a statement.

Schowe was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where he died Monday morning, the statement said.

Schowe had been charged with corrupt business influence and theft in connection with the theft of video-game merchandise and meat from local Walmart and Kroger stores in April and May, The Journal Gazette reported in an earlier story.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department said in a written statement Wednesday afternoon that the death remains under investigation.
