FORT WAYNE – It was a busy morning for Fort Wayne firefighters Monday.
Two separate house fires less than three miles apart broke out on the south side within about a half-hour, according to the fire department.
In the first fire, crews were called to a vacant or abandoned home at 1304 McCulloch St. just after 8:45 a.m.
Firefighters found smoke coming from the second floor of the home. A contractor had reported the blaze and firefighters had it extinguished within 10 minutes.
Firefighters were then called to a home at 4737 Winter St., where they found smoke and fire coming from the back corner of the home, the fire department said.
Once inside, firefighters found fire extending into the attic. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, the fire department said.
No injuries were reported, and the causes of the fires are being investigated.
