A 46-year-old Fort Wayne man was sentenced this week in U.S. District Court to five years in prison and four years of supervised release after he and his wife were arrested for growing marijuana at their Sandpoint Road home.
James McClurg pleaded guilty earlier to manufacturing more than 100 marijuana plants. Last month, his wife, Jennifer McClurg, 43, was sentenced to two years in prison for her role in the growing operation.
The pair admitted the operation involved between 40 and 60 kilograms of marijuana, according to court documents.
A marijuana-growing operation was found at the couple’s home at 3830 Sandpoint Road in February when Allen County police said they attempted to serve civil papers and smelled an overwhelming odor of raw marijuana.
The couple also agreed to forfeit a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle bought by Jennifer McClurg for her husband using drug proceeds, according to court documents.

A Huntington man was sentenced this week in U.S. District Court to five years in prison and four years of supervised release for growing marijuana.
Shawn Karst, 36, admitted to growing 100 or more marijuana plants, one of two counts in a federal indictment issued last year.
He was also charged with possession with intent to distribute 100 or more marijuana plants, in August.
Karst forfeited a .40-caliber handgun and hydroponic growing equipment such as thermostats, fans and lights. He also forfeited a number of books including “The Cannabible Collection,” “The Good Bud Guide” and the “Anarchist’s Cookbook,” according to court documents.
