1 injured in south-side blaze

One person was taken to a hospital with burns Friday night after a house fire on Fort Wayne's south side.

Firefighters were called at 10:15 p.m. to 3516 Congress Ave., where they found smoke coming from the second floor.

Crews discovered the fire started in the basement. Although the fire didn't spread beyond the basement, the second floor received extensive smoke and water damage, officials said.

One person escaped the blaze, but was taken to a hospital with burns, the department said.

The house had heavy smoke, water and fire damage. The cause is under investigation, officials said.
