Tangerine Tango. Pink Flambé. French Roast. Honey Gold.
Sounds good enough to eat.
Or, in this case, wear.
Pantone has released its fashion color report for fall 2012, and some local fashion and beauty experts shared some tips about just how to rock some colors you might not have in your wardrobe. Bright Chartreuse, anyone? What about Rose Smoke?
An easy way to incorporate Pantones trends is through your beauty routine. A bold lip is in this fall, says Amy Baxter, a local makeup artist. Tangerine Tango and Pink Flambé would work well on the lips. If youre not used to wearing such a bold lipstick, Baxter suggests wearing it at home and get used to it every time you catch yourself in the mirror.
The trick with these is to wear very little color everywhere else, she says. Keep eye shadow, liner and slashes soft-looking.
If youd rather keep your lipstick minimal and play up your eyes, Baxter recommends using the Pantone colors to create a smoky eye with French Roast, Rose Smoke and Titanium.
First, sweep the Titanium shade into the crease and work down toward the lash line.
Layer French Roast over the Titanium, starting at the lash line and working up to the crease. As the colors blend, they will give a great smoky look you can make as light or as dark as you like.
Use the Rose Smoke shade as a highlight by sweeping this color under the eyebrow and adding just a dab to the inner eye.
Because this is such a bold look, Baxter recommends doing this before putting on foundation so you can wipe away any shadow that falls below your eye.
If the above smoky eye is too intense for you, Baxter suggests just adding a Pantone color to your regular eye makeup routine, an easy tip for transitioning from a day look to night, she says. People with brown eyes can add an Olympian Blue or Ultramarine Green eyeliner.
Youll be surprised at how your eyes will seem to pop without the bold color overtaking your look, she says.
People with brown eyes can also sweep a bit of Bright Chartreuse on the eyelid.
Baxter recommends a Honey Gold shadow for people with blue eyes to make their eye color pop. For a more layered look, try a Tangerine Tango shadow in the outside corner and blend toward the center of the eye, over the crease and toward the lash line.
Green-eyed people should wear Rhapsody for a soft look and Pink Flambé for a bold color. Mix the two with the same technique described for blue-eyed girls.
If you dont know where to start when looking in your fall wardrobe, Paige Strong says not to worry. Strong is the production manager of and a designer for The Good Ones, a Fort Wayne clothing line for boys. Last week, she says, she received an email from Target promoting its fall clothing – most of it was in Pantones trendy colors.
All the clothes they have in their fall lineup totally match their same colors, says Strong, of Fort Wayne. Even if youre not educated and know, Oh, the fall Pantone colors are this, I would say that most companies are making their product to match these.
Strong says she has a minimalist sort of style and wouldnt be one to mix and match a lot of Pantones colors. Instead, she might find a skirt in Honey Gold and pair it with a black top and Honey Gold accessories. Because the tone is deeper, she says, this kind of outfit could be worn during the day and still be appropriate for the evening.
Anton Babich, a local designer who specializes in designer menswear shirts and the man behind the Fort Wayne Fashion blog, spoke on Pantones color trends from Magic in Las Vegas, the countrys biggest fashion convention. He says one trend he has noticed is large, bright accessories – an easy way to incorporate the fall trends into your wardrobe.
The biggest thing I think to look for are accessories, from shoes to purses to rings to necklaces, he says. (They) are a much bigger focus than the outfits themselves. If you look at the color pallet, most of the brighter colors are more targeted to the accessories.
Consider a Titanium outfit with Tangerine Tango shoes that have a Rose Smoke accent around them or on the bottom of the soles. Or the purse might provide that bright accent, or a cell phone case.
Certain colors do look better with certain skin tones, Babich points out. Someone with fairer skin might not wear Tangerine Tango well but might instead wear Ultramarine Green, Rhapsody, French Roast or Olympian Blue. People with a darker complexion might instead look for Pink Flambé or Honey Gold.
Despite the list of colors, Babich says that this year, there arent a lot of rules to follow.
Its a little more confusing than ever before, he says. Ive seen people wear things I would think would never work, but the way their wear it, it actually works well.
