2 break legs in crash; intersection closed

Two people each broke a leg in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in DeKalb County, according to the sheriff’s department.

The crash occurred about 8 a.m. on Indiana 8 at County Road 75.

The sheriff’s department said that, for some reason, Timothy Thompson II was driving east in the westbound lane of Indiana 8. Meanwhile, Loraine Vetter was driving west in the westbound lane.

Vetter, 60, told authorities she saw Thompson’s 1996 Buick Century heading toward her in her lane and that she was slowing down and honking the horn of her 2011 Buick Enclave.

Thompson braked, leaving skid marks, and went back into the eastbound lane. Trying to avoid hitting him, Vetter crossed into the eastbound lane, and the two vehicles collided.

Vetter was not hurt. Her passenger, Kayla Vetter, 29, suffered a broken leg and a cut to her head.

Thompson, 25, also broke his leg. He did not have a driver’s license and had been previously suspended for traffic violations, the sheriff’s department said.

Authorities closed the intersection to traffic as they dealt with the crash, according to state police.
