CHEERS to Teresa, John and Tina, who came to my aide after I flipped off my bicycle onto Crescent Avenue on Aug. 7, as well as to the gas guy in the black Cadillac who stayed with me until the EMS arrived.

CHEERS to Edys Grand Ice Cream, Frito-Lay, Gordon Food Service, and Holsum Bakery for their incredibly generous donations to Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Hundreds of people from downtown neighborhoods attended our annual block party, and with the help of these companies the entire event, including the food, was free to those attending.
ANITA KUKER Fort Wayne
CHEERS to Spirit Clips on North Coliseum Boulevard, which provided two barbers at Fairhaven Churchs picnic. The barbers gave free haircuts to children going back to school.
JENNIFER HAYES Fairhaven Mennonite Church
CHEERS to everyone who came to Scotts Chestnut grocery on Aug. 11 for our third Military Appreciation Day event. Donated items filled 201 care packages, while all donated money went to pay for postage. A heartfelt thank you goes to the Nick Taylor family, who graciously allowed us the use of Nicks photograph to showcase where our care packages were going. Lastly, thanks to Monica Koldyke-Miller for being the event planner, Huntington Postmaster Dave Kuehnert and the Huntington Post Office personnel for processing the boxes, and Mike and Melinda from Scotts Grocery for generously hosting our event. Without them, our project would not have been nearly as successful.
KAREN KUEHNERT Director of small groups St. Michael Lutheran Church
JEERS to whoever failed to turn in the crocheting left on the No. 4 bus to the driver for the lost and found on Aug. 21. A friend of Chocolate Box Horse Rescue has been hand crocheting fly masks for the horses. She makes each one a specific size and specific color for each horse. Frankly, I doubt the individual who found it knew what the two completed items were and my doubts are even greater that they had a need for them, but Daisy and Kami did.

CHEERS to Wendy Bellamy, Gerry Brubaker, Doreen Davie, Jean Hershberger, Michelle Johns, Julia McIntosh, Jana Sebele and Lori Stinson for the outstanding job of organizing, promoting and running the fourth annual CASA Charity Golf Event on Aug. 2 at Coyote Creek. CHEERS to all the golfers who participated to benefit the CASA volunteers of Allen County and the abused children they represent.

JEERS to whoever hit the lowest of low in theft, stealing from a grave. Our contact with our 6-year-old granddaughter, Gina, streams through the flowers and decorations we place on her grave each season. Upon the last visit to the cemetery, the flowers we placed in the spring are missing. If this letter finds its way to the thief, let it be known that they also stole our physical connection to our granddaughter. One loss was tragic enough. Please do the right thing and return the decoration to the headstone where it belongs.
