Woman gets 2 years in pot-growing role

A 43-year-old Fort Wayne woman was sentenced to two years in federal prison for her role in a Sandpoint Road marijuana-growing operation.

Jennifer McClurg pleaded guilty this year to a charge of maintaining a place for the purpose of manufacturing marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Along with her husband, James E. McClurg, 46, they admitted to running the operation that involved between 40 and 60 kilograms of pot, according to court documents. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to manufacturing more than 100 marijuana plants.

A marijuana-growing operation was found at the couple’s home at 3830 Sandpoint Road in February when Allen County police said they attempted to serve civil papers and smelled an overwhelming odor of raw marijuana.

The couple also agreed to forfeit a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle purchased by Jennifer McClurg for her husband using drug proceeds, according to court documents.
