Teacher accused of sexual activity with girl, 14

Baatz

A Warsaw Community Schools teacher was jailed on Tuesday, accused of sexual misconduct with a minor and child seduction involving a 14-year-old former student of his.

The Warsaw Police Department said Tyler J. Baatz, 26, met the girl at his apartment on North Parker Street and at Winona Lake.

Police said he admitted to “inappropriate sexual activity” with the teen at his apartment within the past three weeks.

Warsaw school resource officers and detectives had received information about a possible inappropriate relationship and checked text and telephone records. The police department said they indicated that there was contact between the teacher and the child, who had been one of his students, since the end of the last school year that continued into the summer.

Police said Baatz went to the Warsaw Police Department to discuss the matter and acknowledged the “illegal activity” with the girl. He was immediately booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on no bond, and is awaiting court action, the police said.

The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office assisted in the investigation. Police said there here is no indication at this time that any other students were involved with Baatz.
