Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly confirmed Tuesday that junior cornerback Lo Wood ruptured his Achilles tendon and will be out for the season.
Kelly told reporters at a news conference that Wood was backpedaling when he was injured and there was no contact. He said Wood will have surgery Wednesday.
Kelly said it will take four to six months for Wood to recover.
"We expect him back for spring practice," Kelly said.
Wood's injury was first reported Monday night by Irish Illustrated.
Kelly said there are no plans to move safety Jamoris Slaughter, who worked at cornerback at times during spring practice, to cornerback.
Wood was working opposite Bennett Jackson at cornerback with the first team during fall camp. Notre Dame also has sophomores Josh Atkinson, Jalen Brown and Cam McDaniel and freshmen KeiVarae Russell and Elijah Shumate at cornerback.
