Keys to the game

Dayton collected 14 hits in an 11-1 victory against Fort Wayne Monday at Parkview Field.

Sean Buckley and Yorman Rodriguez hit home runs for the Dragons. The TinCaps had just four hits.

Here are the highlights.

Key hit: Buckley hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead.

Key out(s): Fort Wayne had runners on second and third with one out in the second inning. Kyle Gaedele got a green light on a 3-0 pitch and hit a hard grounder to third – and the runners had to hold – for the second out. Tyler Stubblefield walked to load the bases, but Jace Peterson then flew out to center field to end the inning.

Playoff race: The TinCaps have 14 games remaining in the regular season. The team has a 1½ game lead over Lake County (which lost to Lansing 10-0) and a 2 1/2 game lead over South Bend (which beat Bowling Green 6-3) for one of the Eastern Division's two second-half playoff spots. Lansing and Bowling Green qualified in the first half.

Quotable

"We can't afford to continue to play the type of baseball we've been playing lately. Otherwise, I don't think we are going to last long, or we're probably not even going to make it to the playoffs."

- TinCaps manager Jose Valentin
