About 3 p.m. Thursday the Rev. Bill McGill looked out of his window and pondered that it was the 37th day of his 40-day fast to draw attention to violence in the community, and there had been no civilian-on-civilian homicides in Fort Wayne.A woman was seriously injured in a shooting early Saturday at a gas station in southeast Fort Wayne, police said.
The shooting happened shortly before 4 a.m., when many people and cars were in the lot of the Marathon station at 3505 Wayne Trace near Oxford Street, said officer Jason Anthony, a city police spokesman.
The woman was standing outside the station when she heard gunshots and then realized she had been shot, Anthony said.
"There's nothing to indicate that she was an active part in anything leading up to the shooting," he said.
Officers were called to the station and found the woman with a gunshot wound to her side. She was taken to a hospital in serious condition and was later upgraded to fair condition, Anthony said.
The victim, whose name was not released, told police she could not tell who shot her. It's not clear what prompted the shooting or who, if anyone, was the target.
Police had no suspects Saturday evening. Investigators plan to review surveillance video from the station, Anthony said.
