A weekend party turned into a fight and numerous people started shooting into a large crowd of people, hitting a house and grazing a baby, a Fort Wayne police report said.
Police responded to the 3400 block of Oliver Street about 1:30 a.m. Saturday because of a loud party and shots fired. When police arrived, multiple groups of people were being loud and disruptive, the report said.
A witness told police there was a large party at a house on the southwest corner of Oliver Street and Bowser Avenue.
The witness said there were about 100 people lining the street when several groups began fighting and several people started shooting at one another.
Someone yelled at the crowd to stop shooting because there were children all over the place, the report said.
During the melee, a bullet struck a house and hit a baby who was inside a nearby home, police said. The bullet grazed the babys neck but the injuries were not life-threatening, the report said.
There was a disturbance and you have these irresponsible people with firearms and people begin to shoot, said Raquel Foster, Fort Wayne police spokeswoman.
A juvenile was arrested on charges of minor in consumption of alcohol, disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.
Another juvenile was questioned in the babys shooting, but was later released, Foster said.
