Police find man dead after standoff

TERRE HAUTE – A man who police said threatened on Facebook to shoot himself if anyone tried to come onto his property has been found dead inside his Terre Haute home.

Detective Troy Davis told the Tribune-Star (http://bit.ly/Ry4g2J) that investigators believe the man killed himself sometime during a six-hour standoff Friday. Officers found the man about 6:30 p.m. when they entered the house about a half-hour after flooding it with tear gas.

Neighbors stood watching throughout the afternoon after police evacuated them from nearby homes and cordoned off streets in the area.

Davis said the coroner’s office will determine whether to conduct a toxicology test on the man.
