Woman charged in fatal hit-skip

A Fort Wayne woman was charged, for the second time, Friday in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash in April.

Anissa M. Northrup, 33, of the 1600 block of St. Marys Avenue, was charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in injury or death. She is accused of hitting Nathan Gatchell in the 1100 block of Broadway, a probable cause affidavit said.

Northrup was driving north on Broadway at 2:47 a.m. when she hit Gatchell, 26, then continued without stopping, court papers said. Gatchell died at the hospital shortly afterward.

Minutes later, a police officer pulled over a minivan matching the description in the area of Huffman Street and Franklin Avenue, near Hamilton Park, about a mile and a half north of the crash scene.

Northrup originally told police the damage was from a previous crash, but she later said she had been driving north on Broadway after leaving the Steel Mill Tavern, 2123 Taylor St., court papers said.

The Allen County Prosecutor’s Office originally charged Northrup with five felonies in Gatchell’s death, but those charges were allowed to expire.

Northrup had not been arrested as of Friday evening.
