ND fencer Kiefer ousted in foil quarterfinals in London

LONDON — Lee Kiefer knows her Olympic medal is coming. She just might have to wait a few more days, or even 2016.

She's fine with either scenario.

The 18-year-old soon-to-be-freshman at Notre Dame was ousted in the quarterfinals of the women's foil event on Saturday, the first full day of competition at the London Games. She lost to Italy's Arianna Errigo 15-10, shortly after rallying past South Korea's Jung Gil Ok in the round of 16.

Kiefer has another chance at a medal in London, since she'll also compete in the team event. Otherwise, the Olympic wait for the Lexington, Ky., resident will continue until the 2016 Games in Brazil.
