A 32-year-old man riding an all-terrain vehicle northeast of Larwill was badly hurt in a crash late Thursday, according to Indiana conservation officers.
About 11 p.m., David Carter was riding his four-wheeler with a passenger sitting behind him. They were riding along a mowed path on Carters property on Whitley County Road 650 West.
The four-wheeler hit something in the path, and Carter and his passenger were thrown from the vehicle, officers said. When Carter landed on the ground, he injured his head and was knocked unconscious. He also received a severe cut to his right arm, conservation officers said.
Carters passenger, who was not hurt, called 911 and performed CPR until first responders arrived. Carter, from Larwill, was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, where he was listed in critical condition, conservation officers said.
