Driver badly hurt in Maplecrest crash

A driver was badly hurt in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in northeast Fort Wayne, according to city police.

A white Chrysler 300 going south on Maplecrest Road collided with a green Mazda that was trying to turn left from Maplecrest onto Alvarez Drive, witnesses told police.

Emergency crews were sent to the intersection about 12:50 p.m. When medics arrived, the Chrysler driver was not responsive, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The Mazda driver was not injured, police said.

Before the collision, the Chrysler driver may have had a medical issue that could have contributed to the crash, police said.

Police did not release the names of the drivers. The crash remains under investigation.
