Murder suspect crashes plane, kills himself

SALT LAKE CITY – Officials say a man wanted in connection with a Colorado murder attempted to steal a plane from a small southern Utah airport and then killed himself.

St. George city spokesman Marc Mortenson said 40-year-old Brian Hedglin, a SkyWest Airlines employee, scaled a razor wire fence at the St. George Municipal Airport early Tuesday and then boarded a SkyWest jet while the airport was closed.

Mortenson said Hedglin crashed the plane into some cars in a parking lot. He said a police officer then found the man inside the plane with a gunshot wound to his head.

Hedglin was wanted in connection with the death of Christina Cornejo in Colorado Springs. Her body was found Friday by police doing a welfare check at the request of her family and her death has been ruled a homicide.
