A Fort Wayne plastics company wants to invest more than half a million dollars and add 13 full-time positions.
Calico Precision Molding, 1211 Progress Road, is seeking approval of a 10-year tax abatement on an investment of $543,500. The tax break would save the business $38,156. The request will be introduced to the City Council on next Tuesday, city officials said.
Most of the jobs at the 54,000-square-foot facility are in production and will pay about $19,000 a year. Three other positions in management and engineering will pay $50,000.
Four years ago, Calico announced an investment of more than $330,000 in building improvements and equipment and hiring up to 20 workers. The company employs 34 workers.
Google executive named Yahoo CEO
Yahoo is hiring longtime Google executive Marissa Mayer to be its next CEO, the fifth in five years as the company struggles to rebound from financial malaise and internal turmoil.
Mayer, who starts at Yahoo Inc. today, was one of Googles earliest employees and was most recently responsible for its mapping, local and location services. Mayer, 37, began her career at Google in 1999 after getting her masters degree at Stanford, the school Googles co-founders attended.
Ross Levinsohn has been running the company on an interim basis and was thought to be the leading candidate after Hulu CEO Jason Kilar dropped out from consideration. Levinsohn filled in after Scott Thompson lost his job two months ago in a flap over misinformation on his official biography.
‘Seven Habits’ author Stephen Covey dies
Stephen R. Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People as well as several other books that together have sold millions of copies, has died. He was 79.
In a statement sent to employees of a Utah consulting firm Covey co-founded, his family said the writer and motivational speaker died at a hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho, early Monday due to complications from a bicycle accident in April.
