Bank heist suspect collared at Target

Brown

– A man who robbed a bank Wednesday morning in northeast Fort Wayne was quickly caught at a nearby store, city police said.

The man entered the Chase Bank branch at 6225 Stellhorn Road, brandished a gun and demanded money before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Shortly after 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to the bank, near Maplecrest Road. They received a description of the robber and learned that he may have fled west toward Target at 6119 Stellhorn Road, police said.

A Target employee told police on the scene that a man in the store was acting suspiciously. Officers created a perimeter around Target while an off-duty city police officer, an Indiana State Police trooper and an IPFW police officer entered the store to look for the robber.

While attempting to elude the off-duty officer, the robber tried to discard his gun. The officers caught him and found the gun and other evidence of the crime nearby. The gun turned out to be a BB gun, police said.

Customers were in the bank during the robbery and in Target during the robber’s apprehension. No injuries were reported at either business, police said.

The robber was identified as Davion D. Brown, 19, of Yoder. He was booked into the Allen County Lockup on a preliminary charge of robbery. He remained in custody Wednesday night, with a bail amount of $10,000.
