Musician Ralph Tourkow is fondly remembered as a talented musician who had a jovial sense of humor and a schedule of dinner dates. His family and friends agree that to meet Tourkow was to instantly meet a friend.At a news conference this afternoon, Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry said the city's storm cleanup will take three to four months to complete.
"We had over 500 trees that were knocked down, a lot of them were across streets, major corridors," Henry said, adding that all main routes are expected to be cleared by the end of today, including closures at points on Bluffton Road and Ardmore Avenue.
He said residents can help with the cleanup by moving fallen trees and branches to the curb to be picked up by city crews. Residents can also dispose of tree debris for free at four spots: the parking lot of Swinney Park pool, the parking lot of Tillman Park (Tillman Road entrance), Shoaff Park at Conklin Pavilion and the city Biosolids Facility on Lake Avenue, west of Maplecrest Road.
The mayor reminded the public that the ban on burning in the city and county remains in place.
"You will be cited if you are burning any material," he said.
Henry said 59 traffic signals are still down throughout the city, including the intersection of Coldwater Road and Coliseum Boulevard.
"Please treat these intersections as a four-way stop," he said.
