Gardens still need a drink of water when it doesn’t rain

“We got the heat; now we just need the water,” Franklin Jones says as he waters his line of beets Wednesday morning in garden space off Nuttman Avenue. Jones, who has been tending the garden for the past 11 or 12 years, says he has never seen a dry period like this before. “All I can do is give them a drink of water and hope it rains,” he added.
