The NCAA recognized 47 sports programs at 10 universities in Indiana for the teams performance in the classroom.
The NCAA named its academic overachievers Thursday. The award recognizes teams with perfect scores of 1,000 on the Academic Progress Rate measures and those that finish among the top 10 percent in their sports APR. This years data cover the four-year period from 2007-08 through 2010-11.
Notre Dame led state institutions with 17 teams earning overachiever status, and Butler was second in the state with 11.
The Irish teams that earned the award were baseball, mens basketball, mens cross country, mens golf, mens hockey, mens lacrosse, mens swimming, mens tennis, mens indoor track, mens outdoor track, softball, womens cross country, womens golf, womens soccer, womens swimming, womens indoor track and womens outdoor track.
The Bulldogs teams that earned the award were mens basketball, mens cross country, mens golf, mens soccer, mens indoor track, mens outdoor track, womens cross country, womens golf, womens tennis, womens indoor track and womens outdoor track.
Valparaiso was third on the list in the state with six teams being recognized. Valpo teams that earned the award were softball, womens basketball, womens cross country, womens golf, womens indoor track and womens outdoor track.
Indiana University and Evansville each had three teams honored.
Hoosiers teams that earned the award were baseball, mens golf and womens tennis. Purple Aces teams that were honored were womens basketball, womens cross country and womens golf.
IPFW teams recognized as overachievers were mens golf and womens volleyball.
Purdue teams to earn the award were mens basketball and womens volleyball.
Indiana States mens cross country team, IUPUIs mens tennis and Ball States womens cross country team were also recognized as academic overachievers.
