Abromaitis loses bid for 6th year

SOUTH BEND – The NCAA turned down Notre Dame star Tim Abromaitis’ request for a sixth year of eligibility.

The school confirmed the decision Wednesday and said there were no plans to appeal.

Abromaitis was lost for the season Nov. 25 when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during practice. The 6-foot-8 fifth-year senior had played in two games.

Abromaitis averaged 15.4 points and six rebounds per game the previous season when Notre Dame went 27-7. He received an MBA in business from Notre Dame a year ago.
