Rumor control: K's will play at Quad City

Two sources confirmed to The Journal Gazette that the Quad City Mallards were experiencing payroll problems, a rumor that was gaining traction in CHL circles today.

Tonight, however, a high-ranking member within the league told me that, while there was some truth to the rumors, the Mallards are now up to date and aren't in imminent danger of folding.

Komets president Michael Franke wouldn't discuss the rumors but said his team will play Friday night at Moline, Ill. In fact, general manager David Franke is already in the Quad Cities.

Club 9 sports bought the Mallards last June.
