Irish trail Seminoles 34-23 at half

Notre Dame went into halftime trailing Florida State 34-23 in the third round of the NCAA tournament in Chicago's United Center.

And it's a half that the Irish would rather forget.

Notre Dame went 9 of 29 from the field and was a paltry 1 of 10 on three-pointers. Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis lead the Irish with six points each, but the Irish's top two scorers went a combined 4 of 14 from the field.

Florida State had little trouble scoring, especially from behind the arc. The Seminoles hit 7 of 12 three-pointers and went 11 of 26 from the field. Michael Snaer's eight points lead Florida State's offense.

Irish forward Scott Martin seemed to be hampered by a strained back in the first half. The senior went to the locker room just less than three minutes into the game.

He returned a little later but was back in the locker room with just more than three minutes left in the first half.

Martin did play the last minute and a half. Notre Dame will need anything Martin and his gimpy back can give them with Jack Cooley and Carleton Scott sporting three fouls each going into second half.
