  • Komets affiliate with Avs, Lake Erie
The Komets have aligned with the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and their American Hockey League team, the Lake Erie Monsters.
  • This is sad news
Former Komets star Joe Kastelic, who once owned the record for most goals scored in the IHL, died Wednesday at 81. He skated for the Komets from 1953 to 1957 and then again in 1960-61.
  • Major signings for Komets
The Komets bolstered their roster with a potential No. 1 goaltender, a former first-round NHL draft pick, a familiar face and player who should be popular with the fans.

Team breakdown

So, let's take a look at what the Komets might look like, in terms of line combinations and defensive pairings.

This is what I'd do to start:

Top line: P.C. Drouin-Leo Thomas-Sean O'Connor

Second line: Brandon Naurato-Mathieu Curadeau-Derek Patrosso

Third line: Tyler Fletcher-Matt Ward-Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock

Extra forward: Olivier Legault

Defense 1: Danko Mironovic-Guy Dupuis

Defense 2: Frankie DeAngelis-Brandon Warner

Defense 3: Bobby Phillips-Craig Cescon

Extras: Steven Oleksy, Keith Rodger

Goaltender: Nick Boucher and whomever else they sign

Cuts: Brad Pawlowski, David Cianfrini, Joe Bluhm, Brant Marple

I have to say, I'm not so sure Rodger might not be on the bubble, compared to Cianfrini.
