Random observations

Here are some random things I saw during the players availability portion of the second day of Notre Dame's football media days:

  • Sam Young is a very relaxed individual. This should really be no surprise as a four-year starter on the offensive line there is probably very little he hasn't seen. The 6-foot-8, 320-pound right tackle was bare foot in the interview room and leaned back in his chair hardly moving while answering questions.
  • Kyle Rudolph is still getting used to being interviewed. The sophomore tight end kept fidgeting with his fingers while answering questions. During the few minutes I spoke with him, Rudolph answered questions very quickly and his fingers never stopped moving.
  • Golden Tate and Michael Floyd talk like they play. Tate was a pretty quick talker; Floyd was more measured in his speech and seemed to be more precise in what he said.
  • Finally, nose tackle Ian Williams enjoys the "Lion King." For more on this read the first of what is hoped to be a weekly feature on Irish Insights: "Five questions." Williams is the first athlete to answer the five questions and the feature will be posted Monday morning.
