School: Hickory Center Elementary, Northwest Allen County Schools

Grade/subject teaching: First

Education: Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and endorsements in middle school math and kindergarten from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne

Years teaching: 12

City born and raised: Fort Wayne

Current hometown: Fort Wayne

Family: I am married with two great children.

Last book read: “The Lucky One,” by Nicholas Sparks

Favorite teacher: My first-grade teacher, Mrs. Mossburg. She always made learning exciting, and I always wanted to go to school. She was very creative and made everyone feel like they were special.

Favorite class in school: Math; it keeps me thinking, and I like to figure things out.

Favorite teaching memory: Any time when a student tells me they like school or they liked what we just learned, which for a first-grade teacher is pretty often, so it’s fun!

NACS is without a superintendent. What qualities would you like to see in the next one: We do now have an acting superintendent for one year. I hope whoever we have is willing to work with the wonderful faculty that is within NACS and can come to an agreement on our contracts while keeping the high quality of education of our students a top priority.

Nominated by: Traci Evans, parent

Reason for nomination: She has been such an inspiration to my kids and has taught them so much about reading and trusting themselves and that things don’t always have to be perfect so mistakes are OK sometimes.
