Verbatim: Kokomo woman wins $250,000 in Hoosier Lottery

Hoosier Lottery issued the following news release on Saturday, April 1:

INDIANAPOLIS (April 1, 2017) – A Kokomo woman will be renovating her home after winning $250,000 on a $5 Indiana Black Scratch-off from the Hoosier Lottery.

Lisa Gilsinger called the win "shocking" and said she almost fell out of her chair when she scratched off the winning ticket at home.

"It was just so unbelievable," she said while claiming her prize at Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis with her husband and best friend.

Lisa held onto the ticket for a week before claiming the prize. She spent time meeting with a financial advisor and her bank before making the drive to Indianapolis.

"I just wanted to make sure I'm doing the right thing," she said.

The mother of two adult children has seven grandchildren. She said she wants to renovate the outside of her home and save the rest.

Lisa purchased the winning ticket at Fast Lane Food, 174 E. North St. in Kokomo. She said she had never purchased an Indiana Black Scratch-off before. She saw the customer in front of her purchase the game and decided to do the same.

$5 Indiana Black went on sale March 7. Two top prizes of $250,000 remain as of March 28.
